A start of a week and I really gotta fill my heart with expectancy soon. Past weekend was great! A great CG with Bro Darren and service with Pst Kong. :)
I'll share to my ability what I learnt and while I'm typing it out, I sure hope I can get more insights in the process.
To kick start!
Updates from Friday CG.Fear is a learned response that keeps you alive but barely living.
A simple truth. For everyone of us out there trying to realise our dreams, we all fear when things go wrong. It's a basic human instinct and thought process to protect ourselves from harm's way. But it can lead to a life not lived to the fullest. A life that is not according to the destiny we have.
The very reason why we don't jump into a burning furnace..You don't jump from such heights unless with proper safety gears..
Also the reason why we don't jump out of a perfectly working airplane without parachutes..And if this happens, please think of another option.. A backup parachute, perhaps? The above are logical fears that we have. In no way, should they be attempted without the proper gears, precautions and training. But what about our passions and dreams? When you're passionate about something, it'll be clearly visible by others around you. It'll be a general agreement that you're good at it!
On the other hand, the very reason why we fail to unleash our potential and pursue our passion is also because of
FEAR. Fear of failing, making mistakes, being laughed or mocked at.. Worse still, being persecuted for trying to pursue your passions and dreams. I'm blessed to have gained better understanding on how fear works and how it can cripple a person.
From Genesis 3, we're all familiar with the fact that the fall of Man was due to the eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. This resulted in Adam and Eve to realise that they were both "naked". In this context, it means that they were "exposed to harm".
In verse 7, "Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. "
God allowed Man to be "naked" because He originally purposed that we fix our eyes and focus upon Him no matter what happens. This is not the case after Adam and Eve ate from the tree. Instead, sin takes our eyes off God and set them upon ourselves. Because of sin, we perceive our inadequacy and weakness as a formidable force.
In 1Sam 17:11 - "Saul and all Israel heard these words of the Philistine (Goliath), they were dismayed and
greatly afraid." Why was Saul, the first king chosen by God to be king over Israel, afraid? He should know that God is with him all the time.
In Joshua 1:4, God tells Joshua that He will be with him, just like how He was with Moses. Through verses 6 to 9, God repeated "Be strong and courageous" 3 times. From this, we know that God wants us to trust in Him and
"be strong and courageous" to face fear. To know that God is with us, like how He was with Moses.
And in Isaiah 43:1-2, God says to fear not as He will be with us through the waters, rivers and even the fire. What a relief for all of us. :)
Lastly, 1 John 4:18..
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
God's love is perfect and we should not fear Him when we make mistakes. In this perfect love, fear does not exist. There is no punishment nor condemnation in this perfect love.
What is your passion and dream? Do you have a fear that is holding you back? Who and what can be against you when God is with you. In everything you do, remember that..
You're the apple of God's eye. :)
